The 24,042 seat circular Coliseum is a great place to watch basketball games and other big events because there is not a bad seat in the house. Each seat is cushioned and comfortable, and the sky-boxes are unobtrusive. The scoreboard has crystal-clear replays, and there are six other message boards scattered throughout the arena.

The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament has been held at the Coliseum often, and will return in 2008. The arena has also hosted the Final Four. The NBA Charlotte Bobcats are to begin play in fall 2004 at the Coliseum where the the city's former NBA team, the Hornets had played for 14 seasons. The Hornets moved to New Orleans in 2002.

In July 2003 construction began on the new $260 million arena in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The steel and brick building has been designed to represent the Charlotte area's diverse urban culture as well as the strength, stability and foundation of the city's heritage.

Charlotte's new arena convienently named "Charlotte Arena" will be the future home of the city's new NBA franchise, the "Charlotte Bobcats". The new arena is expected to be completed for the start of the 2005-06 season.

Concessions
Fourteen permanent concession stands offer food ranging fron Carolina barbeque and baked chicken to pizza and baked patatoes. Of course you can get things like popcorn, candy, and peanuts.

Parking
Special roads and exit ramps were built to make getting to the Coliseum easier. The parking lot can accomodate 8,000 cars. There is an overflow lot that can park another 1,500 vehicles if needed.

Directions

From I-77:
Take Exit 5 (Tyvola Rd.) and head west, following the Charlotte Coliseum directional signs. The Coliseum is approx. three miles on the right.

From I-85:
Take Exit 33 (Billy Graham Parkway) to Tyvola Road Extension. Exit east on Tyvola and the Charlotte Coliseum will be approx. one mile on the left.

Tips

  • Know how to get to and from the arena
  • Arrive early
  • Obtain a parking pass whenever possible
  • Remember which parking lot you are in
  • Bring some extra cash
  • DON’T forget your tickets!
