Busch Stadium Information

Busch Stadium
250 Stadium Plaza • St. Louis, MO 63102

Along with the 2006 baseball season came the arrival of a new era in Cardinals baseball. The new state-of-the-art Busch Stadium was designed to bring baseball's best ballpark to baseball's best fans and it has! New Busch Stadium opened on April 10, 2006 with the Cardinals defeating the Milwaukee Brewers. The ceremonial first pitches were with Chris Carpenter and Albert Pujols to Bob Gibson and Willie McGee and the first pitch was from Mark Mulder to Brady Clark. David Eckstein had the first Cardinals hit in the second inning and Albert Pujols had the first Cardinals homerun in the third inning in the new and improved stadium. The Cardinals went on to win the World Series in the inaugural season at Busch Stadium! In addition, Busch Stadium has been chosen to host the 2009 All-Star Game!

The original Busch Stadium opened on May 12, 1966 with a 12 inning win over the Braves 4-3. Busch Stadium was at the focal point of downtown and with the redevelopment of the downtown area new office buildings, hotels, shopping complexes, parking garages, and other facilities were added including the International Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum and the Cardinals Hall of Fame.

The stadium offers a view of the downtown St. Louis skyline and the Gateway Arch. Gate three has a large bridge resembling the Eads Bridge arching over the entrance. Outside of this gate there is a statue of Stan "The Man" Musial and all of the other statues that surrounded Busch Memorial Stadium are outside of Gate four. On the outside of the stadium there are plaques of the Cardinals logo, the STL insignia, and a Busch Stadium logo behind home plate-hand carved originals were cast into colored concrete adorning the brick façade and replicas are available for purchase. The Top 100 Cardinal Moments are embedded in the sidewalks with fan-purchased bricks surrounding the marble plaques.

Weather
If you've never been to St. Louis in summer, brace yourself. The summer months are hot and very humid. And the nights aren't necessarily cooler in July and August—90 degrees at 6pm isn't news. You have to take your chances—you could find a perfect day for baseball, or an afternoon in a 50,000-seat sauna. April nights can be chilly, but September is usually very pleasant.
