Chase Field Information

Chase Field
401 E. Jefferson Street • Phoenix, AZ 85004

Chase Field is a stadium located in Phoenix, Arizona and is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns. Beginning in 2006 it became the home to the annual Challenge at Chase which is a baseball game between Pac-10 rivals Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. It is also known as The Bob after its original name, the Bank One Ballpark.

The construction of the ballpark finished just before the Diamondback's first season began in 1998. It was only the second MLB stadium to have a retractable roof and was the first ballpark to feature natural grass in a retractable roof stadium. It also has a swimming pool that is located in right center field-and is available for people to rent. The ballpark also has a dirt strip between home plate and the pitcher's mound and is one of only two current ballparks to have this.

Chase Field hosted games 1, 2, 6, and 7 of the 2001 World Series between the Diamondbacks and the Yankees. The Diamondbacks won all four games at The BOB, and won the world championship. In March of 2006 the park hosted the three first round games of the World Baseball Classic.

In addition to being the home of the Diamondbacks and Suns Chase Field also hosts occasional concerts and international soccer games. In the past it has hosted the Insight Bowl and also staged two women's college basketball games. There is a rumor that the WWE is looking into possibly bringing Wrestlemania 25 to the venue in 2009. This would be the first Wrestlemania to be held in Arizona.

In just a few seasons Chase Field has become one of the most recognizable landmarks with its swimming pool and retractable roof. Since opening its doors on March 31, 1998 it has seen nearly 15 million baseball fans enjoy the opportunity to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks in action!

The retractable roof contains 9 million pounds of structural steel and operates on the same technology found in drawbridges and overhead traveling cranes. Bull's Eye Bermuda was installed on the playing field over the All-Star game break in July of 1999 and has proven to be the best solution to date for growing natural grass in a roofed facility.

When it comes to food at Chase Field, Chase has it covered. There is approximately a quarter mile of concession stands offering traditional eats as well as specialty stands located throughout the park such as treats from McDonald's, Blimpie's sandwiches, Peter Piper Pizza, and Garcia's Mexican food. The ballpark also offers specialty ice cream, yogurt, smoothies, shaved ice, and specialty popcorn. There's even a farmer's market! The new Taste of the Majors Stand features special menu items for each National League team along with a number of original Diamondback favorites like chicken tenders with fries and Diamondback Dogs. Friday's Front Row Sports Grill is located in the left field corner and gives you the opportunity to enjoy fine food and beverages while you watch the game from the terraced seating. It is open from 11 a.m. to midnight. Game Day table seating can be purchased by calling the Arizona Diamondbacks ticket office or Friday's Front Row.
