Pittsburgh Fine Dining

The Colony Restaurant
1928 Cochran Road • Pittsburgh, PA 15220 • 412.561.2060
A traditional steak house, '60s style, where well-heeled diners feast upon exquisite cuts.

Elegant, well-dressed couples and businessmen sit in comfortable chairs, served impeccably by tuxedoed waiters. While the dining appears formal, the mood is light, it's obvious that diners are having a wonderful time.

There are steaks and chops, and the best grilled calf's liver in the area. The house steak sauce is so good it is bottled and sold locally. Large sirloins and exceptionally tender filet mignons; seafood options are large lobsters and salmon fillets. The large house salad comes with a fixings tray that includes real bacon bits, capers and bleu cheese.

Primadonna Restaurant
801 Broadway Avenue • Pittsburgh, PA 15140 • 412.331.1001
Joseph Costanzo Jr. started Primadonna as a token of love to his wife, Donna, and in the process brought a touch of class and a taste of Little Italy to this working-class neighborhood. Costanzo describes his moderately priced menu as "peasant Italian cooking." But while a glance at the regulars sitting around the bar might have you thinking "paisan," you could just as easily find yourself rubbing elbows with celebs such as Tommy Lasorda or Danny Aiello, thanks to Primadonna's award-winning cuisine.

Such appetizers as mozzarella in carrozza or stuffed hot peppers with sausage are quintessentially Italian, but even more authentic is the heart of the menu. Choose from 33 different made-to-order pasta dishes, such as house special spaghetti a la Louie or homemade gnocchi with meatballs. There's also a decent selection of seafood dishes, such as sea scallops in butter, garlic and white wine, as well as an assortment of veal, chicken and steak. The fact that Primadonna has its own salad dressing, its own tomato sauce and its own private label of California cabernet sauvignon makes it a classy affair indeed.
