Tomaso Maggiore learned the art of Italian cookery as a child at his mother's side at the family's restaurant in Palermo, Sicily. He later fine-tuned his skills at the Culinary Institute of Rome, then emigrated to the United States.
After a six-year stay in New York, Maggiore moved to Phoenix in 1977 and opened Tomaso's. It quickly became a local institution in the Valley.
