A 70-year-old Cincinnati institution, La Normandie, on 6th Street between Walnut and Main, is a pricey steakhouse, but with a casual atmosphere (think peanut shells strewn about the floor). The steaks and fresh fish are popular with regulars. One of our favorites is the broiled New Zealand rack of lamb.

For a special night out, try the five-star Maisonette, on 6th Street between Walnut and Main. Chef Bertrand Bouquin serves up classic French and Continental cuisine. One of the best entrees is the sautéed sea bass with light curry sauce served on a bed of spinach and portobello mushrooms with basmati rice.

Barresi's

An elegant though moderately priced restaurant with a magnificent wine list, not to mention a mean cappuccino and espresso machine, Barresi's offers a blend of northern and southern Italian specialties. Look for angel hair pasta mixed with huge shrimp; or jumbo scallops complemented with artichokes.
