Alabama Crimson Tide
It was a disappointing end to a season that started out with a bang for Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide. However, with what's considered one of the best defenses in country, combined with a stout running game, Alabama is poised for another run at the SEC Championship in Atlanta, as well as a shot at the BCS Championship. Junior Greg McElroy inherits the quarterback position, and he'll have players like Julio Jones and a bevy of running backs at his disposal, meaning the transition from back up to starter should be easier to navigate.
Alabama's schedule sets up for a clear shot at the SEC West title, which could have them playing in Atlanta on December 5. Besides the season opener against Virginia Tech and the October 10th visit to Oxford, Mississippi, Bama's toughest games will be played in Tuscaloosa. This includes match ups against the LSU Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers. A bit of history...
The Crimson Tide played their first football game on November 11, 1892. They defeated Birmingham High School 56-0. Alabama is ranked fifth on the all-time victory list for Division I, and ranks among the best in postseason play holding NCAA records for most bowl games and wins. It has also had the most 10-win seasons-the most by any Division I school.
Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The stadium has undergone several renovations including increasing the seating to 92,138 making it the fifth largest on-campus football stadium in the nation. This is the third expansion since 1988. The expansion added three levels of seating, two large video scoreboards, and state-of-the-art wrap around display boards. Also added were 38 skyboxes, a club level area and a traditional upper deck seating.
