Washington State Cougars
The word for the season in Pullman is offense. The Cougars enter the 2007 season as one of the hottest offensive teams in Division 1. Leading the stellar Cougar attack is senior quarterback Alex Brink, who is poised to break every passing record at Washington State. Leading the ground attack for the Cougars are sophomore running backs Dwight Tardy and Chris Ivory, with Tardy expecting to get the majority of the carries between the two.
When Brink gets the snap from center, he'll have plenty of options to throw the ball to. These options are led by Brandon Gibson, Michael Bumpus and Charles Dillon. Filling out the receiving corps is tight end Jed Collins, whose presence gives the Cougars one of the most potent air attacks in the Pac 10. But is it enough to challenge USC and the rest of the big boys?
The easiest way to answer that question is to look at the defense. If they can somehow match the output of the offense by shutting their opponents down, the Cougars will be on the fast-track to the BCS. If the defense doesn't improve, expect a repeat of last season's 6-6 record. While it's true, high scoring offenses are very exciting, if the defense can't stop the other team, your team will be on the short end of a lot games that finish 35-42...
