Oregon State Beavers
The biggest question for Oregon State for the 2007 season is whether or not we'll see the return of Sammie Stroughter, an ultra-explosive receiver for the Beavers. If Stroughter does make it back on the field, he'll join a group that returns 17 starters from last year's 10-win team. This will give the Beavers a potent team to attack the Pac 10 with... maybe even strong enough to topple USC and Cal.
Coach Mike Riley is entering his seventh season at Corvallis and is hungry to capitalize off of last season's success. If Coach Riley's off-season issues get worked out, he may very well get his wish. However, the key to the whole thing is Stroughter. If he comes back, he'll join an explosive offense that's led by Walter Camp finalist Yvenson Bernard, an explosive running back who probably has one of the best first names in all of sports. Besides the obvious moniker benefits, Bernard rushed for a commanding 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns, making him one of the brightest spots on the Beaver team.
The defense, while not having as cool of a name as their running back, does have a lot of talent and is expecting to be even better in 2007. Nine of the top eleven tacklers are back on the field and defensive line is lead by four senior starters, a luxury most D-1 coaches would give their appendages for.
