Can the Longhorns move past the loss of mega-star Kevin Durant, who's now with the Seattle Supersonics, and have a successful 2007-08 season? While players like Durant are pretty impossible to replace, the Longhorns do have some definite talent on their roster, a fact Coach Rick Barnes surely smiles about. Coach Barnes has seven legitimate Division 1 players he can turn to, meaning he has as much depth to work with as the rest of the Big 12.

The seven players Longhorn fans should be aware of are D.J. Augustin, A.J. Abrams, Damion James, Justin Mason, Matt Hill, Connor Atchley and Dexter Pittman. Leading this group will be D.J. Augustin, who averaged 14.4 points a game and led the Big 12 in assists, dishing out 6.7 dimes per. With the remaining talent, the loss of Durant, who accounted for over 30% of their points, shouldn't be as difficult as it first seems. Joining Augustin in the backcourt will be long-range bomber A.J. Abrams, who averaged 42.3% shooting from behind the 3-point arc, an eye-opening accuracy that other teams will have to respect.

Newcomer Gary Johnson should provide some much-needed depth to the Texas frontline; a unit that will have to adjust their style of play now that Durant has moved on to professional pastures. While there is an expected adjustment period in dealing with the loss of Durant, the Longhorns have a lot of talent and shouldn't be worried about adjusting by the time the Big 12 regular season roles around. If these players can grow into their roles and take on the bigger responsibility that's expected of them, expect Rick Barnes and the Texas Longhorns to again challenge for the Big 12 title.
