Seton Hall PiratesThere seem to be two types of teams in the Big East: teams that could challenge for the outright NCAA title and those that are rebuilding. As of right now, Seton Hall falls into the latter category but there is hope on the horizon. One of the key components of any rebuilding project is getting your roster's talent level to a point where it competes within your conference and because the Pirates reside in the Big East, this particular chore can be pretty challenging. However, for Coach Bobby Gonzalez, the cupboard is not completely bare.
The suspected leader of this year's Pirate team will probably be Eugene Harvey, a member of the Big East All-Freshman team. Harvey is a steady point-guard who possesses the ability to score the ball. Pairing with Harvey in the Pirate backcourt is Jamar Nutter, a nice complimentary player to Harvey. These two will be backed up by ultra-quick Paul Gause and freshman Jeremy Hazell, who is touted as being a great shooter. While the guard positions may be filled primarily with recognizable faces, the Pirate frontcourt only has one returning starter, Brian Laing.
However, understanding he was undermanned in the post, Coach Gonzalez addressed his lack of talent (or bodies) by signing Mike Davis, Michael Glover, and JUCO transfer Augustine Okosun. These 3 are expected to challenge for the starting forward positions. The center position will be manned by John Garcia, however, if he fails, expect on of the taller newcomers to take his spot. Judging by the new players joining the roster, it appears as if Coach Gonzalez is in a position to make Seton Hall competitive again, something the fanbase will certainly enjoy.
