Will an interesting incoming class give Coach Bill Carmody enough talent to compete in a tough Big Ten conference? While he's been at Northwestern since the 2000 season, Coach Carmody has worked to increase the overall talent of his team; he has had a number of issues to deal with including injuries and underachievement. However, if he can get his newcomers to mesh with his system and his returning players to play to their ability, the Wildcats could play spoiler to a number of teams.

If Kevin Coble makes it back to campus in time for a good portion of the season, he'll give Northwestern a key player to build around. Freshman Michael "Juice" Thompson is expected to start and Coach Carmody did a good job of signing players with size and athletic ability, something his team desperately needs. While rebuilding efforts can take some time, especially at schools that aren't traditional powerhouses, there are signs of improvement.
