Of course, Nebraska is known as a football school. However, that doesn't mean the basketball team can't field a competitive squad, something Coach Doc Sadler takes very seriously. Normally, the successes of a basketball team is measured initially by the amount of talent on the roster and while Nebraska's level may not jump out at you, they do have one player that is worthy of national recognition and if they can surround him with good role-players, the Cornhuskers could play the role of spoiler every time they hit the court.
For the 07-08 season, the Huskers will lean on their stud, Aleks Maric, a tremendous amount. Maric is a 6-11 senior who averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds last year and is looking to terrorize opposing post players all year long. The key for Nebraska is will they be able to provide any modicum of support for Maric because if they do, they could certainly be players when it comes to deciding who wins the Big-12. Joining Maric will be newcomer Jeremy Barr, a 6-8 transfer from Southern Cal. Whenever you can pair two legitimate big men together, opposing teams will have their hands full.
One of the keys for Nebraska is will they be able to stretch the floor with consistent outside shooting, which will allow Barr and Maric the room to operate in the paint. If you have a good inside-outside game, a team will be hard to beat and you can bet that's exactly what Coach Sadler is working towards. Nebraska fans, players like Maric only come around once and a while so it would be a shame if you didn't make it out to Lincoln to watch him play. You won't be disappointed.
