Can Coach Bruce Weber recapture some of the previous success he's had as coach of the Illini after a disappointing 2006-07 season? While it may not result in another Final Four, Coach Weber does have some talent on his roster and that starts with center Shaun Pruitt, a talented big man that gives the Illini a solid piece to build around. If Pruitt can get some consistent help from the remaining roster, one that features a number of newcomers, Illinois will be a force in the Big Ten and beyond.

Joining Pruitt on the frontline will be Brian Randle, an athletic forward who has been plagued by injuries since he arrived on campus. Word is Randle is healthy for the first time in a while and could be an important cog for returning the Illini back prominence. As indicated, Coach Weber will be depending on a number of newcomers, including freshman point guard Demetri McCamey and junior transfer Steve Holdren. If these two can perform as advertised, the Illini will have a solid group of players when they take the floor.

Illinois fans are used to their basketball team being very competitive, a motto instilled by previous coach Bill Self.
