While the road to rebuilding is never the easiest to travel, having a coach familiar with the program doesn't hurt and that's what Coach Mike Cronin brings to the table. The Bearcats are still trying to recover from the Bob Huggins debacle, a move that left the Cincinnati roster short on both talent and players. Enter second-year coach Mike Cronin, an assistant with Coach Huggins while he was at Cincinnati. Coach Cronin brings a familiarity and an ability to attract talented players, something the Bearcats are in desperate need of, as last year's 11-19 (2-14 in the Big East) record suggests.

While the Cincinnati cupboard isn't completely bare, it certainly isn't as stocked as it was in seasons past. Leading the way for the Bearcats will be DeOnta Vaughn and John Williamson. Vaughn is a talented sophomore guard who averaged 14.5 points for the Bearcats during his freshman season. Williamson is a 6-6 senior who averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds last year, making him the primary Bearcat low-post threat. The duo is joined by a talented freshman class and some depth provided by upper classmen who didn't bail out on the program after Huggins bombshell dropped.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats suffered another setback when Texas transfer Mike Williams was hurt during preseason practice. While that may negatively impact the upcoming season, it should give some hope that Williams will be able to join the talented newcomers as they become sophomores, indicating the way back to the top of the Big East isn't as far as you'd think.
