OK, after almost two years of this conversation, it’s time to close it. Sean, I understand your anger, but I’m not going to let a meager sports blog comments page turn into a “know your enemy” slam fest. Pat is already paying the price for his terrible choices.

The rest is simply piling on.

Pat Betterton was born in November of 1984 I believe, went to Christian Brother’s Academy and was pompous arrogant and felt like the world couldn’t touch him in all my years of knowing him. I really hope that getting pounded by Bubba knocks him down a peg or two.

Oh and if anyone doubts that I do know him, I could tell you where he lived in Old Bridge, what company his father works for, his mother’s name how many siblings he had, and where he went to grammar school.

CBA, you should check your information. Apparently you do not know Pat at all because that is not his birthday, nor was Karate Kid is favorite movie. As a matter of fact, the only information there that I know is correct is the fact that he lived in Old Bridge and that he was sentenced to six years.

What I also believe is that, Omar is in fact NOT Pat, but a close friend, relative, or co-worker that will do everything in his power to defend Pat. Even lie and make up excuses. I have come to that conclusion based off the comments from “jdmmojo” in this article of Pat’s sentence.

Omar, if you are indeed this “jdmmojo” how do you know so much about Pat, while you live in Redmond, Washington?

Omar, one more question. What is the point of defending Pat? He is in jail and is a registered sex offender. Does anything else really matter? What is the point of defending him? Are you going to defend him for the 6 years that he is in prison? Beyond that?

If I were you I’d just stop.

Yes, in hindsight, because at the time of the conversation, his motives weren’t apparent. Furthermore, I’m not defending Pat, his actions, or the fact he got punished.

I’m simply defending the theme of the post, which is, once again, that MMA/Martial Arts/Defense instruction is not, in its nature, an exploitative activity. Unfortunately, Pat completely torpedoed the message.

In hindsight?… Almost every criminal has that same though, that they should have never done it, when they get caught. See I’ve been in the Martial Arts for 26 years, my father has been in Martial arts for nearly 45 years, I have a son that is now training. What happens is that Pat’s actions effect true instructors,true leaders in the Arts. Let’s be honest when a parent bring their kids to a Martial Arts Dojo, they really don’t know the difference between karate and tae kwon do, or Kung Fu, they just have trust that you will teach their kids to be strong,healthy,confident leaders who can defend themselves if need be. They don’t know your dojo from the one down the road. Now parents loose that trust when so called “instructors” do things like this.When Pat comes out he will never legally be able to run another dojo again,never get respected as a Martial Artist (not that anyone besides his students did), and that’s what he deserves In my opinion if an “instructor” does that he must get what I like to call “Dojo Justice”.

I’ll tell you why I said it was sad. When I talked to Pat on the phone, he seemed very passionate about protecting kids, and in hindsight, his behavior was completely different.

While we didn’t necessarily become comrades or anything during the conversation, I respected his opinion when he gave it. His choices, again, ruined the original intent of this post — that is, MMA/Martial Arts training is NOT open season on exploiting children.

It’s a crying shame Pat couldn’t practice what he was preaching.

I’m not sure why this situation is sad – Pat is a criminal and deserves whatever he gets in prison! He took the innocence away from a 13 year old girl! He put himself in this situation when he took this teenager to his home for his own pleasure…PLEASE! I’m sure BUBA will have his way with Pat in Prison! He is right where he belongs! It is our responsibility as adults to protect and guide children this man took that all away from this girl!
