Goldenballs Nets First MLS Goal
The David Beckham investment looks like it finally paid for the Los Angles Galaxy last night as Becks netted his first goal as an MLS player. I suppose another golden iPod is in order. The goal came courtesy of a nifty Landon Donovan pass that found a wide-open Beckham with only the San Jose goalie to beat.
And he did:
Considering the off-the-charts hype surrounding Beckham’s tour of United States soccer, it’s a little surprising he hadn’t scored his first goal already. Of course, then you remember he didn’t really play at all last season because of some lingering injuries. Evidently, the Beckham goal was such a momentous occasion, it was the lead highlight on late night Sportscenter, trumping LeBron, Favre and baseball..
Besides striking fear in the hearts of MLS goalies everywhere, Beckham also set up the second goal by completing a cheeky lob to Landon Donovan, who finished the pass by chipping it over the goalie. Apparently, these two are on their way to forming a dangerous duo.
Because of their offensive efforts, the Galaxy won the match, 2-0.
