Professional boxing is not what it used to be and there’s little question about the state of the sweet science. Besides the occasional Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, boxing has been hurting for household names. However, just because there isn’t an Ali or Tyson to hitch your boxing knowledge to, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a bevy of exceptional fighters; fighters that have no qualms about going toe-to-toe with any opponent.

And every so often, these fighters are actually paired up against each other, bringing boxing fans — and every so often, the general public — a fight that catches the collective attention. The most recent being, De La Hoya/Mayweather. However, that particular fight lacked the drama and skill displayed by the first Juan Manuel Marquez/Manny Pacquiao match-up.

The Boxing Times has a brilliant write-up of their first fight, which took place in May of 2004.

Because of the display of boxing put on in the first fight, Juan Manuel Marquez versus Manny Pacquiao II, which takes place this upcoming Saturday, is a hot ticket for the fringe boxing followers dying to see an exciting fight.

These types of fights, the kind that catch the general public’s eye, promise a star-studded lower arena featuring a who’s who of Hollywood boxing fans. Of course, the majority of those sitting in the lower level won’t know why the hype for this fight is so high. However, if they would just take a look at the video from the first round of the previous Marquez/Pacquiao fight, they’d understand:

As indicated, the fight is scheduled for this Saturday at the Mandaly Bay casino in Las Vegas. Let’s hope it lives up the billing of Marquez – Pacquiao I.
