Sidney Crosby Brings Joy To Canadians…

Yes, Sid the Kid made the Canadian fans happy, but that’s not quite the effect he had on his southern neighbors. While deserving credit where credit is due for scoring the gold medal-winning goal, I’m not sure Crosby endeared himself to Team USA hockey fans, no matter how fair-weather* they were. A quick glance at Facebook, which has become one of the first places to go when looking for public reaction to popular culture events, finds this gem, called the Petition to Not Allow Sidney Crosby back into the United States.
Conversely, Canadian fans have been getting on the Facebook fun as well, thanks to a “Thank You, Sidney Crosby” kind of page.
It should also be noted the latter fan page has more members than the hater pages do; although, I have to wonder just how much the hater pages saw their memberships increase after yesterday’s game?
I’m posting the following video just to see how long it stays up. I can’t help but wonder if NBC and their crackdown brethren will be as thorough with unauthorized video now that the 2010 Winter Games are over. We shall see:
So while congratulations are in order — it was a nice finish by Crosby, even if he was a “Johnny on the Spot” — I’m still going to allow the Haterade I’ve been drinking since Crosby’s gift crossed the goal line to influence my description.
Simply put, to me, Sidney Crosby equals Christian Laettner; and if you are aware of the fact that I’m a Kentucky fan, that little designation should speak volumes.
*I have no doubt these fans wanted Team USA to win, but ask them in two weeks if they are still “hockey fans.”
