Ashleigh McIvor

Dear Canada,

Instead of waiting for your Olympic Hockey team to justify your attendance at the 2010 Winter Olympics, you might want to focus more of your attention on someone whose actually won something. In this case, Ashleigh McIvor has everything you could ask for. She’s the best in her sport (Women’s Ski Cross) — at least, as of today — and she’s incredibly photogenic, on top of being quite attractive. If, my Canadian friends, you’re unsure on how to capitalize on her win, take some lessons from us, your American neighbors, and the marketing blitz we used with Lindsey Vonn.

Put McIvor on the cover of your sports magazines; your websites; your Good Morning Canada style of programs. Whatever it takes. Just get it done. Not only is she more deserving at this time, she’s also much, much better looking than anyone your Team Canada’s hockey team, including Sidney Crosby.

While I feel this plea is legitimate, apparently, Canadian news sites didn’t attach the same kind of importance to her win as they do the idea of Russia beating Team Canada in hockey.

Take a look for yourself.

Instead of yelling McIvor’s name from the Canadian mountaintops, most of Canada’s news sites have reduced her to sidebar status, and that’s a shame.

For posterity’s sake, here’s NBC’s video of her winning run, as well as the medal ceremony. If that’s not enough incentive to stop panicking over your hockey team, and choose McIvor, I’m not sure what to tell you.

With that in mind, I’m glad somebody in your press corps get it.

A word of advice for McIvor, however: dump the Papyrus font from your site, especially for the site’s written content.
