They had screwed up and given Childress complete authority over the roster and coaching staff, so that wasn't even an option. When you screw up like this, and make no mistake, the Vikings screwed up giving an inexperienced egomaniac like Childress that much power, you are better cutting the head off the snake before it kills even more of the team.
