If anyone should be facepalming themselves, it’s Kansas City running back Larry Johnson. After getting into yet another situation involving a nightclub, a woman and a spit drink, apparently, Johnson had a much-needed moment of clarity and issued a statement saying he was disgusted with himself and the direction his life and career are going.
An excerpt:
“I want to start off by saying I apologize to the Hunt family and my family, first and foremost, and to fans, my teammates, coaches and players. This is the first time in my life that I actually woke up and was kind of disgusted with myself and disgusted as far as the way my life and my career is headed right now.
“I can’t speak any further on the legal issues at this time other than to say that the truth will come to light, and promise not only to the fans, not only to teammates, players, coaches, GMs and my own family, that I do anticipate seeking help to get better as far as getting my life on track…”
Again, staying out of the Kansas City nightclubs would be a great way for Johnson to start his road to recovery. It’s obvious there’s nothing but drama waiting for him there; even if he starts it or not. These club patrons know what’s going on with Johnson in the news and I don’t doubt at least a couple wouldn’t mind instigating more trouble.
Johnson does deserve kudos for manning up and accepting his responsibilities instead of placing the blame somewhere else. I’m also glad he avoided the “I’m sorry if someone took my actions the wrong way” non-apology apologies. The question I have is why can’t these athletes have a moment of clarity before they get caught up in something like this?
Mike Vick, I’m talking to you too.
