With the Division Championship games this weekend, it means that the Super Bowl is right around the corner. It also gives us a chance to envision what the possible team combinations could be. Who is your ideal matchup?

My choice would be the Packers and Jets. Now, I love the Packers and really dislike (hate is such a strong word) the Jets. But I think it would be interesting to see the contrast between these two teams. The only thing they really have in common are that they are the #6 seeds, which in and of itself would be an interesting thing for the Super Bowl.

Some might argue that both teams have talented young quarterbacks, but I really don’t put Aaron Rodgers in the “young” category, at least not like Mark Sanchez is. Sanchez is a baby, for pete’s sake! He’s got a few more years before anyone starts using the term “elite,” which really until this year I wouldn’t have considered for Rodgers either.

In terms of marketing and brand (and make no mistake, the NFL is one of the best marketed businesses in the country) it would be interesting to see the difference between how the Packers and Jets brands play out on the field. On the Jets side of things, you have bravado, outrageousness, personal attacks, and as up and down as they’ve been this year, they have backed up the claims. They’ve won when they needed to, and won against tough teams like the Colts and Pats.

On the flip side, you have the Packers which represent a very different type of brand. They represent history, your average joe type of followers, and extremely loyal fans. A look at the cheerleaders on the sideline might just tell you all you need to know: they use kids from the UW-Green Bay squad, who are dressed up in family friendly outfits. No one shakes their junk on that sideline, and it isn’t just because it’s cold outside.

I also think the Packers/Steelers would be an interesting matchup, because of the history involved with both teams and that fact that their fans are the most loyal in the league. But I lean toward the Jets/Packers as my ideal matchup. What about you?
