NBA Draft

The Chicago Bulls defied some serious odds and won the NBA Lottery, meaning they will have the first overall pick at the NBA Draft on June 26. Before the lottery was drawn, the Bulls only had a 1.7 percent chance of getting the overall number one pick. Conversely, the Miami Heat, who are picking second and had the most balls in the drawing, had a 25 percent chance of getting the number one.

Now that the draft order has been decided, the question is who will Chicago take with their unexpected choice, Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose? Compelling arguments have been made for both players. Do the Bulls go with the best player in college basketball last season in Beasley or do they go with hometown hero in Rose, a player that’s as explosive as any that’s come into the league in the past few years?

When you consider their roster, you can find a reason to draft both players. Rose is a lighting quick/fast point guard who can score in bunches if needed. He’s also unguardable in the open court because of his speed. Beasley, on the other hand, is an incredible post presence who can take his game out on the perimeter if necessary. Beasley is so dynamic, he seems to be the perfect blend of a power forward with small forward skills.

In other words, the Bulls really can’t go wrong with this pick. Both players will help the team immediately and if they succeed as expected, their help will be immense as well. Whoever the Bulls pick, you can almost guarantee Beasley and Rose will be the top two players taken. If the Bull take Rose, expect the Heat to pick Beasley and vice-versa.

The rest of the draft order looks like so (including Chicago and Miami):
