The Greg Oden Era Begins
After being delayed for over a year, the long awaited debut of Greg Oden finally happened last night and the initial results were exciting. In 20 minutes of game time, Oden scored 13 points, grabbed five boards and blocked two shots and received a standing ovation for his efforts.
Because of last night, the already confident Blazer fans have ramped up their excitement, so much so, the local media, as well as Oden’s teammates, aren’t immune to the hype:
With one stunning play after another, the Blazers on Tuesday put on one of the most entertaining preseason shows in recent memory, blowing away Sacramento 110-81 in front of 19,321 at the Rose Garden.
With Greg Oden dunking and swatting, Rudy Fernandez soaring and slicing, Sergio Rodriguez swishing and lobbing, the Blazers were a nightmare for the Kings, and fans who dared use the restrooms or concessions…
While Oden remained humble, at least one of his teammates publicly said what many on the team have been predicting since they watched Oden work out this summer. “I think he is going to be Rookie of the Year,” LaMarcus Aldridge said. “I’m going on record and saying that Greg is a man-child.”
There’s also a highlight video of Oden’s debut:
So just how good is this Blazers team going to be with Oden and Rudy Fernandez joining the already talented group? Can they honestly compete for a Western Conference title with this much youth in the line up? Will the man-child stay healthy long enough to form the necessary centerpiece for Portland?
