Brandon Roy put on a show against the Phoenix Suns last night to the tune of 52 points. Just for good measure, Roy added six assists, five rebounds and a rejection. Not only did Roy score the second highest total in the NBA this season, but he did so in an efficient manner: 14-27 from the field, 19-21 from the free throw line and 5-7 from beyond the arc.
During the game, Reggie Miller, Marv Albert and Mike Fratello discussed the different defenders Roy had to face, but at the same time, they were admonishing the Suns for not having any effective defenders. So while Roy had different players “guarding” him throughout, he certainly wasn’t in any danger of being locked down. Yes, there were times the Suns defenders got a hand in his face, but Roy certainly wasn’t facing a defensive stalwart of a team.
Not that it takes any of the luster off of his 52-point outburst — but when the opponent’s best defense is to try and outscore you, high individual point totals are easier to come by.
