There’s a report over at ESPN indicating Tiger Woods may have played his last round of golf for the 2008 season. After his historic, dramatic win at Torrey Pines, Woods has apparently decided his left knee needs even more work done it, a decision that will shut him down for the rest of the PGA’s 2008 season.
If so, they can say goodbye to all those fat TV ratings.
However, we may actually see Tiger again before he goes under the knife. From the article:
Woods had committed to playing in the Buick Invitational next week. He hosts the AT&T National the week after at Congressional Country Club in Washington, D.C. The report said he would fulfill his obligations to sponsors at those events.
If that is the case, it means — from a selfish perspective — we get to see Tiger a few more times before he shuts it down. More as this develops.

No end to the ego of Tiger Woods. He played knowing he had a stress fracture and now will miss the rest of the season. I’m sure Johnny Miller will be beside himself with grief. But we will still have the unending profiles to lay before the alter of the great Woods.
I’m not seeing where his ego played a part. Is it because he played on a bad knee and still won?
Dave must be related to Rory Sabbatini (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse.....er-at-tpc/). Sorry Dave, I don’t see the ego reference either, but I may be misunderstanding your point. Tiger mentioned he wanted to wait until the Open was over to go into more detail, such to not take away from the venue and all the hard work put into the Open at Torrey Pines. I am actually happy for him to spend the rest of the year with his family and enjoy some well deserved time off. Granted, the knee surgery is a bummer but for a guy that seems to have been able to play through the pain, re-hab should not be too bad for him.
Tiger deserves the praise. If that’s being equated to putting him up on an altar of golf gods, he’s earned it. Once someone starts to beat Tiger can they trash talk him. If he’s got an ego, he’s fed it lots of nourishing championships, can’t complain about it whether it’s grown or not.
