Midnight Madness

While most of the college basketball world is gearing up for next weekend, two schools exploited an NCAA rule about individual workouts and will be starting their practice one week early — in other words, tonight. Kentucky and Illinois, kick the college basketball season off in style as the other coaches look on in disdain.

The Illini begin practice on Saturday as soon as the football game with Minnesota ends. Because of the football crowd, Illinois is expecting their event to be the World’s Biggest Basketball Practice. As for Kentucky, their initial practice begins tonight at 9pm.

Both schools are expecting huge turnouts for to their inaugural practices. Illinois is expecting around 60000 attendees and will be offering the event online for no charge. In Kentucky, the event is so popular, they’ve recently started using Rupp Arena and its 23000-odd capacity to house the Big Blue faithful.

Normally, Rupp Arena is reserved for actual basketball games and other events.
