Intentional Upset: St Joe’s Upends Xavier
Using a closed-for-renovations finale game in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse, combined with all the festivities and St Joe’s dignitaries involved as motivation, the Hawks beat the Xavier Musketeers, 71-66. Xavier is ranked 11th in the ESPN poll and 8th in the AP.
Jameer Nelson of the Orlando Magic was on-hand, along with other St Joe’s luminaries, to witness the his alma-mater’s last game in the now-retired home gym. St Joe’s will play their home games in the Palestra next season as Alumni Memorial undergoes some much-needed renovations.
Leading the way for the Hawks was senior Pat Calathes, who had 17 points. Pat is the older brother of Florida freshman Nick Calathes. The win keeps St Joe’s fleeting NCAA Tournament hopes alive, although, they’ll probably have to win the Atlantic 10 to be sure.
