While Martin Luther King, Jr’s speech might be comprised of mere words, they are indeed words to live by. Yes, it’s true that actions speak louder, but if your actions are based on these same teachings of peace and understanding, and they allow you to look beyond a person’s skin color, then they are no longer “just” words. Instead, his speech can be used a guide for living one’s life without the specter or prejudice or bigotry as an influence.

In fact, overcoming any shortcomings that allow such behavior is as important as understanding and accepting others.

With that, all I can say is keep Martin’s dream alive. A dream of peace between the races, a dream of a society where a person’s character speaks louder than the amount of melanin their skin contains. If we are to evolve as a species, putting aside our petty differences related to race is paramount. Respecting cultures and belief systems is one thing. People should respect the differences of others, because not everyone has the same upbringing or the same cultural/value system.

Believing someone is inferior because of their skin color is something entirely different, and it’s an idea based solely on ignorance and fear. Surely, we can do better.Similar Posts:

The potential Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger sounds like a bad deal for those of us who actually like to attend live events, be it sports, concerts or otherwise. If you think purchasing tickets has bad surcharges now, imagine what it will be like when two ticket giants like Live Nation and Ticketmaster become one. Without any competition, the new monster will be able to put whatever extra charges on a ticket purchase it sees fit. Without the specter of “I’ll take my business to your competitors” to scare them away, companies like the new TickemasterNation won’t have to fear consumer blow back, because if you want to go see the Los Angeles Lakers play bad enough, and if the new TicketMonster is the only game in town, you’ll pay what they tell you to or you’ll be watching Kobe Bryant do his thing on television.

Without the luxury (Right?) of competitive choice, what recourse do you have if you are unsatisfied with the services rendered? Exactly. And that’s what a merger like this is counting on. It’s a nasty circle that must be stopped before it’s allowed to propagate. Thankfully, The US Justice Department seems to have the same concern:

Proposals to date haven’t resolved Justice Department concerns that a deal joining the biggest ticketing company with the largest concert promoter would harm competition, said two people, who declined to be identified because the deliberations are private. A decision isn’t expected by tomorrow, when shareholders will vote on the deal, a third person said.

Even with the Justice Department watching our fair-market backs, there still more you, the consumer, can do: Remind them you don’t want the merger to go through either. Change.org has a contact form allowing you to inform the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice to protect the ticket-buyer from even further “additional charge” gouging at the hands of the a newly-formed cash-eating behemoth the merger will create. Considering the level of inflation ticket prices have faced (82% in seven years), the lack of action and communication could have drastic effects on how we, the ones who actually buy the products these companies are offering, attend live events.

It’s important to remember the power consumers have, a power we don’t yield enough, unless we are buying the newest touch-screen gadget. Keep in mind, however, this power goes beyond our willingness to spend. If our criticisms are loud enough, we can’t be ignored. Considering the consumer power a Ticketmaster/LiveNation merger would take, it’s important to let your voice of dissension be heard.

Disclaimer — IntentionalFoul.com is owned by TicketSolutions.com, a secondary ticket provider. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember a merger of such magnitude has a larger effect on you the consumer. Individual purchasers are the main revenue source for a company like Ticketmaster and LiveNation. If they merge, their ability to control whatever additional costs they choose to add on could drastically alter the way we attend live events. If “Surcharge A” is allowed to become “Surcharge A, B, and C,” a tactic Ticketmaster is notorious for, it will be the consumer who has to bear the burden.

Please allow us to to continue to provide you with premium seats at the lowest possible cost. Let your voice be heard and stand up to the Ticketmaster/LiveNation monopoly.Similar Posts:

We’ll be enjoying the Holidays until next week, so please, do so yourself. If you’re traveling, be careful, especially if there’s inclement weather involved. As I was saying, be safe. We’ll be back sporadically next week, discussing the BCS and who knows what else. Until then, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Festivus, Kwanzaa or whatever tradition you observe during the Holiday season. As for me, I’ll be all over some NBA action on Christmas Day, while enjoying time with the family. Oh, I’ll be doing a lot of driving as well, meaning I’m included in those driving well-wishes.Similar Posts:

Apparently, the specter of Erin Andrews’ unauthorized video is going to tear the sports reporting world apart. See, for instance, the spat going on between The New York Post and ESPN, detailed beautifully be Deadspin. Here’s a quick catch-up: The Post posted pictures of the nefarious video, thankfully brought to light by Doug Sheckler (I say thankfully not because of a naked EA, but for all the content his post spawned. Nicely done, Doug, even if that wasn’t your intention.), and ESPN got pissed.

I mean really, really pissed.

So much so, they “‘decided to stop utilizing Post reporters on any of our outlets,’ ESPN’s senior VP of communications, Chris LaPlaca said.” Like any New Yorker worth their salt, the Post did not take ESPN’s admonishment lying down. In fact, they put their editorial cartoonist — Delonas — on the case and the result is what you see leading this post. Oh, and they had a written response for the Worldwide Leader as well.

NO one would have known that a sick voyeur had secretly videotaped ESPN reporter Erin Andrews nude in her hotel room, if the Mickey Mouse sports network hadn’t sent a letter to an obscure Web site demanding that it take down its link to a fuzzy video of an unidentified blonde.

Good times. And hey, at least we aren’t having to sit through miles and miles of Favre coverage this summer, thanks in large part to the criminal-minded videographer and Doug Sheckler’s machine-like posting skills — folks, he maintains three blogs on a daily basis, EpicCarnival.com, on205th.com, and the now-infamous NSFWPOA.com — a site that is exactly what the URL tells you it is.Similar Posts:

While the fallout has been far and wide — hell hath no fury like a protective ESPN, apparently — I’m left with one question: How, in all that’s holy, are these things legal?

According to the description, the peephole viewers were made to be used by law enforcement, which is all well and good. If I was a cop getting ready for a potentially violent bust involving a house/apartment/hotel room, I’d want to know what’s on the other side of the door as well. That being said, they weren’t made to film a naked Erin Andrews in her hotel as she prepares for her day. That would be, um, illegal? So if that’s about the only thing the general public would use something like a peephole viewer for, why are they available to the public?

And the answer is, yes, I did watch the video(s) in question. Google cache is a powerful entity.

Update: There’s some doubt a peephole viewer was used to film EA, but the point remains.Similar Posts:

No sports of note last night, so here’s some video of Gina Carano working out outside of Madison Square Garden after the press conference to promote the upcoming Carano/Cyborg brawl on August 15. After those two got through mugging and promoting for the camera, our heroine took things outside and put on a little shadow boxing/light sparring exhibition.

Yeah, to say it’s a slow news day would be an understatement.

If that’s not enough Gina for you — believe me, one post is never enough — Mike Hayes pulled a minor blogger coup by securing an interview with the female face of MMA (sorry Cris). Unfortunately, she ain’t discussing the sex tape, so no soup for you in that department.

In one final note, our friends over at InGameNow have pictures of some ladies at the ESPN’s red carpet event for the ESPYs. One such female making an appearance is, of course, Carano, who looks just as lovely as always. Her upcoming opponent, on the other hand, just, well, doesn’t:

Of course, I say that with the knowledge that Cyborg could whip my ass without much thought. Nevertheless, those boots she’s wearing are kind of frightening.Similar Posts:
