Yes, the prophetic Nick Fairley donned his championship belt when Auburn beat Georgia some weeks ago, but now that the BCS Championship game has come and gone Fairley received a real championship belt for his hard, hard work he put in against the Oregon Ducks. I don’t think Darron Thomas will forget Fairley’s presence anytime soon.

And with that, allow us at IntentionalFoul.com to wave goodbye to another season of college football, in a year when the sport truly proved it’s above any other sport in the NCAA, and if you don’t believe me, read up on Enes Kanter and ask yourself, would he be playing if he was an awesome college quarterback instead of a good basketball player?

I think we know the answer, no matter how many times the spineless Mark Emmert says otherwise.Similar Posts:

@IntentionalFoul #KraftFightsHunger Win Hunger Bowl tickets and hotel accommodations!! http://bit.ly/hSU2RP

If you aren’t apart of the Twitter revolution, you can also enter by commenting on this post. Winners will be chosen tomorrow afternoon (sorry for the short notice). If you’re not anywhere near the San Francisco area, Ticket Solutions will supply you with hotel accommodations for Saturday and Sunday!

Most people don’t realize the major hunger problem in America. Back in September, Kraft Foods teamed up with football legend Joe Montana, sports journalist Erin Andrews and celebrity chefs Pat and Gina Neely to promote the Huddle to Fight Hunger program. Anyone could donate meals, and for each person who ‘joined the Huddle’, Kraft Foods donated one meal to his or her local Feeding America food bank. People could easily participate by tweeting, texting, ‘liking,’ signing up via email, or uploading a photo to the Kraft Foods Huddle website. The goal of the program was to donate 20 million meals or more to Feeding America – the nation’s leading hunger relief organization. As of today, Kraft Foods has officially reached their goal at over 20 million meal donations!

To celebrate this amazing cause – this Sunday, The University of Nevada will take on Boston College at AT&T Park in San Francisco. This is the only bowl game raising money and awareness about the hunger problem in America, which also celebrates the culmination of Kraft Foods’ Huddle to Fight Hunger program.

Update:

Thanks the magnificent Random.org, picking a winner for the this competition was an easy task. The names were entered, retweets first, then comments. These names were entered into the randomizer, and then those results were randomized as well. With that, the winner of the Intentional Foul/Kraft Hunger Bowl ticket giveaway is…

*Opens envelope*

GregKnottLeMond, who retweeted Kraft’s message. Congratulations, Greg and enjoy the game. Let us know how it turns out.

A special thank all of you for entering, as well as helping pass the word about the fight against hunger along.Similar Posts:

Yes, it’s an annual rite of celebration and wretched excess. When you’ve drank yourself beyond drunk and into a level of stupidity well-beyond that not seen since, well – you picked up your first drink tonight, you know it’s NCAA College Bowl Time!!!

Your body may do you a favor and knock you right on your ass before the sun comes up. Once the stench of your vomit stained clothes and urine soaked pants penetrates your nasal passages like freshly cracked smelling salts, you realize that there is barely enough time to get your crap together, grab your next beer, and head to the College Bowl Party. Here’s your <a href=http://www.ticketsolutions.com/sports/college-football/bowl-game-tickets/" target="_blank">NCAA College Bowl 2011 Schedule, you might want to write it down on a sticky note and put it in your pocket for when you come out of your coma tomorrow afternoon:

- TicketCity Bowl, 12-noon: Northwestern vs. Texas Tech

- Outback Bowl, 1:00PM: Florida vs. Penn State

- Capitol One Bowl, 1:00PM: Alabama vs. Michigan State

- Progressive Gator Bowl, 1:30PM: Mississippi State vs. Michigan

- Rose Bowl, 5:00PM: Wisconsin vs. TCU

- Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, 8:30PM: Connecticut vs. Oklahoma

Now, it pains me to post some of these Bowl Game names because I’m of an age where I remember, a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away, when NCAA College Bowl Games had simple names like; The Orange Bowl, The Gator Bowl, The Fiesta Bowl, The Peach Bowl, The Rose Bowl, The Cotton Bowl, and so on. That was before the almighty advertising dollar took a stranglehold on everything and NCAA College Bowl games tend to read like a short novel.

Contrary to popular opinion, New Year’s Day was not a holiday invented through a conspiracy between television executives and athletic directors of every major university in the country. It is not a day to celebrate the kids who play this great sport of football for no pay while generating billions of dollars in revenue for the academic institutions that they represent.

In your world, however, that is very likely the way it is celebrated the most. This year, with New Year’s Day and all of the NCAA College Bowl Games falling on a Saturday, your annual effort to break the world’s record for blood-alcohol content is aided by a full slate of NFL games on Sunday, January 2nd, 2011.

So, I bid you a very Happy New Year. Eat like a pig, drink like a slob, act like a retard, and enjoy the games without hurting yourself or anybody else.Similar Posts:

While this post’s title might be a little long in the tooth, it’s perfectly fitting; and it should be noted this post is not being written by a fan of Kansas State. Instead, this writer is a fan of common sense and fair play, and the penalty endured by Kansas State after wide receiver Adrian Hilburn saluted the crowd after he scored what may have been a game-tying score, provided the two-point conversion was taken from it’s normal position on the field. Instead, the officials — a Big Ten crew no less — decided Hilburn’s salute, an act Webster’s defines as “to address with expressions of kind wishes, courtesy, or honor,” was in the same vein as spiking the ball in the defense’s face, or disrespecting your opponent by taking your helmet off in a “look at me, I’m the man” display of bravado.

Are you f**king kidding me? That’s the best they can do?

In light of the of the NCAA’s whiny response to the flak they’ve taken in light of the Ohio State and Auburn rulings — meanwhile, no Enes — if the NCAA gave one damn about fairness, Mark Emmert would order both teams back to Yankee Stadium, put them through a one-hour practice/warm up session and replay the extra point attempt from the correct yard marker instead of allowing the game to end is such unbelievably shoddy fashion, but none of that will ever happen because the NCAA doesn’t give one damn about fairness.

They care more about money, and if you have any doubt about that, ask yourself why the Ohio State players are being allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl again. Of course, we live in a world where bowl game presidents have much more sway than any notion of fair play ever will.

Oh, and if the NCAA and Emmert did indeed care about fairness, after replaying the two-point conversion correctly, they’d outright fire the officiating crew so that they never infect a college football game with such horseshit again. I’ll be sure and hold my breath waiting for this return to true fair play.

Be sure and warn me once I start turning blue.

With the Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Terrelle Pryor in the news lately for his recent scandal, it’s easy to forget just how good Pryor has been. While he may not appreciate the pride of the university and the legacy of players before him, he comes from a long line of very successful Buckeye quarterbacks. Men such as Troy Smith, Joe Germaine, Craig Krenzel, and Mike Tomczak have all worn the scarlet and gray, but one name you won’t see on any “Top Buckeye QB lists” is the one and only Shane Falco.

Maybe you overlooked this former All-American. Maybe you don’t remember that he suffered an embarrassing loss in the 1996 Sugar Bowl, falling by a whopping 45 points, and earning the nickname “Footsteps” because he was too quick to dump the ball off and shied away from contact. Maybe you forgot he was drafted by San Diego and that his professional career lasted just a single season when he was unable to overcome his tendency to choke. Maybe you don’t know any of this because Shane Falco isn’t a real person. He’s just a character played by legendary Keanu Reeves in the movie The Replacements. (Thank you TBS for showing this last night…twice.)

Shane Falco gets a second chance at his NFL career when he crosses the picket line to play for the Washington Sentinals. Over the course of just 4 games, Falco manages to accomplish:

Overcoming his fear of failure

Saving his kicker from throwing the game by pulling a Peppermint Patty

Dating the hot cheerleader who doesn’t date players, especially quarterbacks

Rallying a team of nobodies to victory over a real NFL team

Bringing sports joy to Washington DC when we all know that isn’t really possible

You can’t help but root for the guy. For crying out loud, his other job is cleaning barnacles off the underside of boats! But he won’t be doing that for long. His redeeming performance for the Sentinals has set the table for him to replace Troy Aikman in the broadcasting booth.

So maybe Shane Falco isn’t really the best Ohio State Buckeye quarterback of all time. But what other quarterback can dodge bullets like this?

“Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory… lasts forever.”Similar Posts:

The Iowa Hawkeyes have had a bad week. Derrell Johnson-Koulianos got booted from the team after a drug arrest. Then, as if having your career receptions leader kicked of the team isn’t enough, running backs Jewel Hampton and Brandon Wegher both asked to transfer. And starting tailback Adam Robinson was suspended for the upcoming Insight Bowl vs. Missouri for “failing to comply with team expectations and policies.” The news for the Hawks was getting so bad that Vegas actually pulled the game from it’s boards. But for now at least the bleeding appears to have stopped. Rumors were running rampant across the internet and in the local watering holes…my own Ruby’s Pub even held some heated discussions about who was next and how many players would actually be suspended.

But for now they Hawks can get down to business and get ready to face Missouri.

Oh yeah, and the Hawks men’s basketball team lost to Iowa State last week in Iowa City for the first time since Reagan was president (approximately).Similar Posts:

In a move that’s sure to make Mike Bianchi happy, Sports Illustrated is trying to do what the NCAA wouldn’t and what the SEC couldn’t do: Stop Cam Newton.

Instead of relying on collegiate-level defenses and the sheer hypocrisy of the NCAA — Enes Kanter says “hi” to the Cam Newton ruling — SI turned to their tried-and-true method, the SI cover jinx.

Newton graces their latest cover, and it’s pretty clear, at least to me, SI is doing it because they have money on Oregon winning and putting Newton on the cover is the only way they can conceive of stopping him. I mean, you can almost see Phil Knight’s fingerprints all over this, and I’m sure the discussion went something like:

“Hey, you guys want some free Air Jordans? Put Cammy-Cam on the cover. I warn you, however: if my Ducks don’t win, I’m buying the company.”Similar Posts:

I’m sitting here watching Nebraska play their last day-after-Thanksgiving game as a member of the Big 12 conference. I don’t know if bittersweet is the right word, but it’s…something. I was actually a pretty big Husker fan in high school. I even had one of my senior pics taken in a Tommie Frazier jersey. (I’ll spare you the actual pic. For some reason I thought white socks looked good with soccer sandals. Geez, the fashion of late 90s Iowa!)

How will the Huskers football team fare in the Big Ten? That’s probably the biggest question here in west central Iowa. Most of my buddies lean towards Iowa City, but a few even lean towards Ames, while fewer still lean towards Lincoln. The general consensus, bias considered, is Nebraska will be a middle-of-the-conference team. Hawk fans don’t think they can beat the Hawks. Cyclone fans are glad to get rid of them. Husker fans don’t care because they’re Husker fans and Nebraska football is all there is…the opponent doesn’t matter.

Why is Bo Pelini so angry? His rant last week on his quarterback Martinez was way out of line, and his berating of the officials was significantly worse. With all the coaches who have been fired for questionable behavior recently in college football, you’d think there would be some backlash here. His public “scolding” by Nebraska’s chancellor doesn’t hold much weight with me.

Is Nebraska the victim of a conspiracy? Against Texas A&M last week the Huskers had 16 penalties versus just 2 for the Aggies. Are the officials working against them as punishment for bailing on the Big 12? Or is it just because under Pelini Nebraska is an extremely aggressive team?

If the move to the Big Ten doesn’t pay immediate dividends, will it hurt Tom Osborne’s legacy? He was a big advocate of the move. If the Huskers aren’t successful early, do fans start to second guess the decision to switch conferences?

Thanksgiving is knocking at our doors, and the rules say we’re supposed to be thankful right? Being stuck here in central Iowa has me a little sportily-challenged at the moment so I apologize if I’m not thankful for the less-than-stellar performance from the favorite local university.

The Iowa Hawkeyes football team was ranked #9 in the preseason with a sleeper’s chance at a national title. Fast forward to week 3 and a trip to Arizona. Keep in mind the Hawks hadn’t won in the Pacific time zone since 1987. You can imagine the result, a loss to the Wildcats on a huge TD drive in the 4th quarter. Hey, one loss won’t kill the season. The Rose Bowl is still an option.

Fast forward to October 23 when Wisconsin visits Iowa City. Another defensive laspe leads to a late TD by the Badgers and drops the Hawks out of first place in the Big Ten. But still, one loss in the conference isn’t the end of the world. There are a bunch of tie breakers, and the Hawks can still come out on top.

Iowa obliterates #5 Michigan State and squeaks out a win against a hapless Indiana team. The Hawks travel to face an overmatched Northwestern team, yet another late defensive brain fart leads to the winning touchdown for the Wildcats. Goodbye Big Ten championship, goodbye possible BCS bowl.

So let’s play spoiler. Let’s ruin another season. Let’s make Ohio State feel the same pain we feel. Or instead let’s have a Groundhog’s Day moment and give up yet another 4th quarter TD to lose the game. Another conference game. At home. This isn’t supposed to happen.

So here we are. One last game against Minnesota. Does it really matter at this point? How thankful can I be for the Outback Bowl?

At least we have these…
