Carrie Underwood is a Grammy Award winning pop country music singer who won the fourth season of American Idol. Her debut album, Some Hearts, has gone quintuple platinum and is noted as the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen Soundscan history. It is also the top selling debut album from any Idol winner or contestant. She is the first American Idol winner to take home awards from all three major awards shows in the same season with one American Music Award, five Billboard Music Awards, and two Grammy Awards.

As a young child she sang in church, for Old Settler’s Day and Lion’s Club, and for local events in Checotah. She graduated from Checotah High School in 2001 and went on to Northeastern State University and graduated magna cum laude in 2006. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and a tribal member of Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma. She performed at the Northeastern’s Downtown Country Show in Tahlequah for two years in the summer and competed in numerous beauty pageants at the university. She currently lives in Franklin, Tennessee.

In the summer of 2004 she auditioned for American Idol in St. Louis. Her initial audition aired in January 2005 and this is when many people predicted she would win the competition. Simon Cowell predicted that Underwood would win the competition and outsell all previous Idol winners when she sang a rendition of “Alone” by Heart, and went on to prove just that! On May 25, 2005 she was named the winner of American Idol season five. She made an appearance on American Idol season six singing “Wasted”. This was her fourth time performing on the show since winning the event in 2005.

Her debut album Some Hearts was released in November of 2005. It became #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and the biggest debut of any country artist since 1991. She has been awarded many awards for this album and her singles produced by the album. In addition to all of the awards she was on Blender.com’s list as being one of the hottest women in music. Her latest achievements include her wins at the CMT Awards for Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, and Video Director of the Year all for “Before He Cheats” which occurred on April 16, 2007.

In March of 2007 she appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live with host Peyton Manning. She performed her hits “Before He Cheats” and “Wasted.” She was only the ninth country music star to perform on the show.

In addition to being a successful singer she is a skilled guitar player, loves animals, and is a vegetarian. She stopped consuming deer at the age of 13 as she couldn’t stand the though of eating one of her own animals. She has been voted “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” with Coldplay front man Chris Martin by PETA in 2005.
