Skid Row is a heavy metal band that was formed in New Jersey in 1986 by bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave "the snake" Sabo. They added guitarist Scotti Hill, drummer Rob Affuso, and vocalist Sebastian Bach (who replaced the original singer Matt Fallan) to the group by 1987. At this time they were playing in clubs around the U.S. Jon Bon Jovi helped Sabo secure a record deal with Atlantic and in 1989 Skid Row released their debut album, "Skid Row" and it became an immediate success! The album went multi-platinum and produced three hit singles, "Youth Gone Wild", "I Remember You", and "18 and Life".

Bach helped the band create its profile with his wild and crazy behavior, but this ultimately became their downfall. In December of 1989 when they opened for Aerosmith Bach was hit with a bottle that was thrown onstage from the crowd (which he later threw back and hit a girl in the face) and so he pursued the person he saw throw the bottle. After the fight Bach returned to finish the show, but couldn't help himself by antagonizing the crowd. This incident is on video and can be seen on a tour video "Oh Say Can You Scream".

After this incident Bach wore a t-shirt with an anti-gay slogan during a magazine photo shoot. He joked about it on MTV, but then apologized later. Years later he apologized again and actually made a substantial donation to an AIDS charity. "Slave to the Grind" was released in 1991 and was the first metal album to debut at number one in the American charts-the album became a big success which is surprising due to the bad publicity Bach was giving to the band. In 1995, they released a new album "Subhuman Race" which was in the top 40. Bach was kicked out of the band in 1997. The rest of the band members went on to play briefly with Ozone Monday.

At the end of the 1990's the band reformed with new vocalist Johnny Solinger and new drummer Phil Varone. Rob Affuso had other commitments that kept him from returning; however he remains close to the band. The band opened for Kiss on their farewell tour and also played with Poison some. Their fourth album was released in 2003, "Thickskin" which was their first album with Solinger as Bach's replacement and Varone as Affuso's replacement. After this release Varone left the band and was replaced by Dave Gara.

The band is currently working on their fifth album which is scheduled for release sometime in 2006.
