Reba McEntire is one of the best selling country music artists of all time. She is a Grammy award winning singer and is notable for her country music with a tinge of pop. She has had 22 number one hits and has had 29 albums with more than 45 million copies sold as of 2006.
McEntire formed a band with her sisters and brother, "The Singing McEntires" which produced a local hit of "The Ballad of John McEntire". This song was a tribute to their grandfather. McEntire sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at a national rodeo in 1974 and was given the advice of going to Nashville to pursue a solo career. Around this time she married, Charlie Battles, and ended up finishing her teaching degree in case the music didn't pan out. Her first album was released during this time as well.
Her contract was with Mercury Records. Her first single on the charts came with, "Three Sheets in the Wind"/"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" in 1978. In the early 1980's she signed with MCA Records and became one of the best selling country artists of all time-releasing three volumes of greatest hits.
Her first number one single, "Can't Even Get the Blues No More", came in 1982 and since her first number one she has had 21 more! She has a two-disc compilation which features all of her 22 number one singles which also includes two new tracks, "You're Gonna Be" and "Love Needs a Holiday".
McEntire holds a record with Martina McBride in winning the Female Vocalist of the Year award four times from the Country Music Association. She had several top 10 hits in the 1980's. She received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 1995 she was inducted in to the Western Performers Hall of Fame.
There are only five women that have won the Country Music Association's highest honor as Entertainer of the Year and Reba is one of them! McEntire has appeared in both film and television. She has her own WB television show, Reba since 2001.
In June 2005, she participated in a concert version of Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific at Carnegie Hall. The summer of 2006 is devoted to six weeks of performing at the Las Vegas Hilton. McEntire's next movie is due out in December of 2006-she will also release a duets album in the fall of 2006.
In early 2008 Kelly Clarkson will join Reba for a special tour, "2 Worlds 2 Voices." This will give fans an opportunity to see them perform live their 2008 duet hit "Because of You."
