Toby Keith is a country music singer and songwriter. He was raised in Oklahoma and received his first guitar at the age of eight. At the age of 20 he formed the Easy Money band and played in local bars as he continued to work in the oil business. In 1982, Keith found himself unemployed and went in to football training and played DE for the Oklahoma City Drillers, although he was still performing with his band. After a couple of years Keith decided to pursue music full-time. In 1984, Easy Money began playing the honky tonk circuit and cut a single, "Blue Moon". "Blue Moon" received local radio play.
In 1993, Toby Keith went to Nashville to disperse the band's demo tape, but did not receive any interest. Keith had promised himself a recording contract before he was 30 or he would give up on music altogether-he was past 30 and no contract. A fan of his who was a flight attendant passed Keith's demo on to Harold Shedd of Mercury Records-Shedd liked what he heard so he went to see Keith live and then signed him to a recording contract with Mercury. His debut single was "Should've Been a Cowboy". It went number one on the Billboard country singles chart and his debut album went platinum. He then moved on to Polydor Records and released his next two albums, "Boomtown" and "Blue Moon". The albums went gold and platinum. When Polydor folded he went back to Mercury Records which is now called Mercury Nashville and released his fourth album, "Dream Walkin'". His next album was, "How Do You Like Me Now", but released it with Dreamworks Nashville. The song "How Do You Like Me Now" was a number one hit for five weeks and the album went double platinum.
He began doing endorsements for Telecom USA and Ford. He sang "Ford Truck Man" and "Look Again" while driving Fords. In 2005, he launched his own record label, Showdog Records, and released "White Trash with Money 1".
On a personal note and in response to his father's death and the 2001 attacks Keith wrote, "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue". He performed this song at his concerts, but wasn't planning on recording it until Marine Corps James L. Jones told him that it was his duty to record the song. This song spent 65 weeks on the top 10 Billboard Country Albums chart. This was his lead single from his album, "Unleashed" in 2002.
