Hilary Duff is a singer and actress. She was born in Houston, Texas to Robert Duff, owner of a chain of convenience stores and Susan Cobb, a homemaker. Duff's mother wanted her to take an acting class like her sister, Haylie, was doing. Both of the girls got parts in various theatre productions. After the girls got serious about acting they relocated with their mother to California while their father stayed in Houston to maintain his business. The girls made it in to several commercials and eventually to television and film.

Duff has appeared in several commercials, television shows, and films, most notably Lizzie McGuire, Cheaper by the Dozen and Cheaper by the Dozen 2, A Cinderella Story and The Perfect Man. Once Duff saw her big sister in a band she wanted to be a singer too. She recorded the song "I Can't Wait" for Lizzie McGuire in 2002 and "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" for "Disneymania".

Duff's first album was "Santa Claus Lane" in 2002 with duets with Lil' Romeo, Christina Milian, and her sister Haylie, as well as a collection of Christmas songs. This album reached gold certification. Her first non-holiday album was "Metamorphosis" in 2003 which was number one in both U.S. and Canada. This album became one of the biggest selling albums of 2003 selling over 3.7 million copies. The second "Disneymania" album was released in early 2004 which included a duet with her sister "The Siamese Cat Song" and another song "Circle of Life" which she performed with other Disney channel singers.

Duff not only acted in A Cinderella Story, but recorded "Our Lips Are Sealed" for the soundtrack from the Go-Go's song. Her second non-holiday album was released in 2004 which is self-titled, "Hilary Duff". This album was number two in the U.S. and sold over 1.3 million copies. Her third non-holiday album came out in 2005, "Most Wanted" which was a collection of her favorite songs from her preceding albums, but also includes new songs that she and her boyfriend, Joel Madden, co-wrote and co-produced. "Wake Up" became her highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and her highest ranked single.

Duff recorded a version of Madonna's "Material Girl" for the soundtrack of the film Material Girls. She has also released a cover of "My Generation" by The Who which will be on the b-side of her "Someone's Watching Over Me" single.

Duff announced in June of 2005 that she was dating Good Charlotte singer, Joel Madden. Madden is the co-writer and co-producer of her latest album.

Duff is involved with many charities including, Animal Rights, "Kids with a Cause", and has donated $250,000 to the Hurricane Katrina fund. She also has a clothing line, "Stuff by Duff". The clothing line sells in Target in the U.S., Kmart in Australia, and Zellers in Canada. A doll was released by Playmates Toys of her in 2004.
