Celine Dion is known for her talented and powerful vocals. At the age of 12 her mother and brother Jacques helped her collaborate her first song. Her brother Michel sent it to music manager Rene Angelil. Angelil knew that Dion would be a star right off the bat and decided to mortgage his home to finance her first record. In 1981, her first album was released and became number one in the local market and made Dion a star in Quebec. Her popularity started to spread quickly to other parts of the world and by the late 80s she was a local pop artist with albums like Incognito. Celine had already won several awards and by the age of 18 she told Angelil that she wanted to be a star like Michael Jackson. She decided to learn English so she could further her career in North America. One year after she learned English she produced Unison. Her next big breakthrough came in 1991 when she collaborated with Peabo Bryson in the music video of "Beauty and the Beast". By 1992 she was a superstar and in 1993 she declared her love for Rene Angelil in the album, The Colour of My Love. In 1994, they were married. By 1996 she had created another album Falling Into You . She was in the height of her career. In the 1990s she released and promoted 13 albums. Angelil was diagnosed with throat cancer so Dion decided to retire and take a step back to enjoy the good things in life. In 2001 she gave birth to a son Rene-Charles Angelil. After the September 11th attacks Dion came back to music and sang "God Bless America" at a benefit concert. She returned to music and produced more albums and became more popular. By the end of 2005 Dion had grossed over $76 million placing sixth on Billboard's Money Makers list for 2005.
Celine Dion is not only a successful musician, but entrepreneur as well. She has her own line of eyewear and perfume manufactured by Coty, Inc. She has also participated in endorsements for both Pepsi and Chrysler. In 2004, she was hired by Air Canada as part of their new promotional campaign.
In addition, Dion has been a supporter of many charitable organizations including the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF); World Children's Day sponsored by McDonald's, the T.J. Martell Foundations and the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. She has donated proceeds from selected performances of her Vegas show to various charitable causes.
