The Black Crowes are a hard rock band that has sold over 15 million albums. The band is also listed at #92 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock". The band began as Mr. Crowes Garden in Atlanta, Georgia in 1985. The band has had many members over the years, but the driving force has always been brothers Chris and Rich Robinson. In 1989 the band signed with American Recordings. They released their first album "Shake Your Money Maker" in 1990. The debut sold over 5 million copies and was certified five times platinum in 1995.

After Jeff Cease was replaced with Marc Ford the Crowes released their second album "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" in 1992. The album was certified double platinum in 1995 with sales over 2 million. The band recruited a keyboardist and he became a permanent member of the group beginning with the "High as the Moon" tour. In 1994, "Amorica" was released after scrapping the unreleased album "Tall" the previous year. "Amorica" wasn't as big of a hit, but still reached gold status and sold over 500,000 copies.

In 1996, the Crowes released "Three Snakes & One Charm". Marc Ford was fired and Johnny Colt left the band. In 1998, Sven Pipien joined the band and in 1999 "By Your Side" was released. Shortly after the release Audley Freed joined the band and in 2000 the Crowes went on tour and recorded a live album with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. In this same year Chris Robinson married actress Kate Hudson. In 2001, the band released "Lions" which produced "Lickin" and "Soul Singing" singles. A live album of two sold-out shows in Boston was released in 2002 around the same time that the band announced their hiatus.

In 2005, the Robinson brothers and Harsch reassembled the band, bringing Marc Ford and Sven Pipien back and introducing Bill Dobrow on drums. In May of 2005 the band reunited with original drummer Steve Gorman and played a five night sold-out stand at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. During that summer they joined Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for a summer tour. As part of their Reunion they played a New Year's Eve concert in Madison Square Garden along with the North Mississippi All Stars and former Phish front man Trey Anastasio.

The Crowes released their first DVD in March of 2006 which contains a behind the scenes short film. The Crowes plan to work on The Lost Crowes as they will release a two-disc collection featuring sessions from two unreleased albums, "Tall" and "Band".
