Kelly Clarkson is a pop/rock singer and songwriter. She made her debut with RCA Records after she won the highly publicized first season of "American Idol" in 2002. She was originally marketed as a pop star with the release of her first album, "Thankful". In efforts to remove herself from her "American Idol" image she took over more creative control and developed a rock image for the release of her second album, "Breakaway". This album gave her four top 10 singles and won two Grammy Awards for her. Clarkson is currently working on her third album which is supposed to be released in late 2006. It is said to still have the rock/pop edge, but with a bit more soul.

Kelly Clarkson was overheard in the hallway singing by a teacher-the teacher had her audition for the choir. In addition to the choir Kelly performed in many musicals. She graduated in 2000 and worked several jobs to help finance her demo CD that she was hoping to market to record labels. She didn't receive many responses so she decided to move to Hollywood to seek other opportunities in music. She was scheduled to work in a mentor program with Gerry Goffin, however Goffin became ill. Clarkson appeared in a couple of extra roles to make ends meet, but soon became discouraged and moved back to Texas where she worked odd jobs. In 2002 several of her friends convinced her to audition for "American Idol". She did and went on to out-perform every other contestant and take home the official crown of "American Idol" season one winner.

Clarkson's release of "A Moment Like This" was very successful. She released her first album; "Thankful", in 2003 and it debuted at number one in both U.S. and Canada. The album has been noted as double platinum for sales of 2 million copies. Kelly's second album "Breakaway" was released by RCA Records in 2004 and it debuted within the U.S. top five and the Canadian top ten. The single releases from the album proved to be very successful and became certified five-times platinum in the U.S. and quadruple platinum in Canada. "Since U Been Gone" earned Clarkson her first Grammy Award for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" and she won a second for "Best Pop Vocal Album".

In early 2008 Kelly Clarkson will join Reba McEntire for a special tour, "2 Worlds 2 Voices." This will give fans an opportunity to see them perform live their 2008 duet hit "Because of You."
