Grand Ole Opry
2804 Opryland Drive • Nashville, TN 37214 • 615.889.6611
After 75 years and six venue changes, the Grand Ole Opry is still the stage aspiring country stars dream of playing on. On Fridays and Saturdays, Nashville mainstays like Porter Wagoner and Jimmy Dickens entertain tourists. Though these performances are also broadcast on WSM (650 AM) and the Internet, no weekend visit to Nashville is complete without catching a live show. The Opry House occasionally hosts gospel concerts or church conventions, and sometimes you can catch free music on the Opry Plaza. Of course, today's hottest country artists come here each year for the Country Music Association awards show. And you never know--you might spot a star in the audience at an Opry performance.
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
222 Fifth Avenue South • Nashville, TN 37203 • 615.416.2001
No trip to Nashville is complete without a visit to this museum. The stunning new building brings music center-stage with an impressive mix of technology and breathtaking artifacts. Keep an eye out for Hank Williams' ivory suit stitched with musical notes, Roger Miller's 11 Grammys and Trisha Yearwood's application for a tour guide position at the original museum.
Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center
2800 Opryland Drive • Nashville, TN 37214 • 615.889.1000
Like an entire city under one roof, Opryland Hotel and its themed areas are so vast, you could spend hours wandering and never see it all. From dancing fountains to cascading waterfalls, the hotel maintains its water theme. There's even a river running through the Delta, the hotel's latest expansion, which brings the room total to 2,884. In fact, this is the largest hotel in America not in Las Vegas. Walking into one of the cavernous covered gardens is an awesome experience.
Frist Center for the Visual Arts
919 Broadway • Nashville, TN 37203 • 615.244.3340
The building was the main post office from 1934 until 1986. The "classic moderne" architecture with art deco accents made it one of Nashville's classier, functional buildings until the U.S. Postal Service opted to move the main post office to the airport area. To get a better idea of the monumental transformation, check out the hall lined with historic and recent pictures illustrating the change.
